Florida Athlete Arrested on Rape Charges
FLORIDA - The Miami Herald reported yesterday that former Deerfield Beach High School football player Steven Feagin has been arrested. Feagin, now 38, has been linked to a series of rapes that date back to his college years.
DNA evidence connects the Feagin to sexual assaults in Illinois 1993 and 1995, but he was arrested on two counts of sexual battery and one count of burglary with assault in response to more recent events.
According to the arrest report, the athlete broke into a woman Pompano Beach home on June 10, 2007, after which he held a cloth to her nose and mouth and waited for her to pass out. When the woman regained consciousness and discovered Feagin raping her, he shoved the cloth up her nostrils and assaulted her again.
After investigators entered DNA evidence into a national database, they discovered that the samples from the recent rape case matched samples from the rapes that occurred in 1993 and 1995.
Broward Sheriff's Office Detective Eric Hendel said that Feagin was also arrested in 2005 for having consensual sex with a 15-year-old and that his wife had filed for a domestic violence restraining order in 2007.
